Module Overview

In this module, we will focus on the fourth component of the SAMR model: Redefinition. Here you will begin by reading and examining examples of how technology can be used to transform the learning that is currently carried out in the classroom and in classroom lessons through Redefinition. As with the previous components you will explore methods for transforming learning through Redefinition. These redefined learning opportunities can be utilized in both face-to-face and virtual classrooms and will build off of the work that you completed when learning to create your Substitutions and Augmentations and Modifications and learn to integrate the technology for the purpose of now transforming students' learning opportunities. You will be provided with multiple examples that show the transition from No Tech - Substitution - Augmentation - Modification - Redefinition in order to begin to visualize how the progression and purposeful transition can be applied to your lesson activities.

Module Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the Redefinition level of the SAMR model.

  • Involve students in the assessment of their learning.

  • Design lessons at the Redefinition level of the SAMR Model..

  • Make informed decisions regarding the integration of technology based on research and the needs of all of their students.

  • Implement purposeful modified learning through classroom lessons.

  • Reflect on their purposeful integration of technology and make continued changes based on student results.

Application to Instruction and Student Learning

Participants will be able to provide students with meaningful, rigorous learning opportunities that reach all four levels of the SAMR Model through the purposeful integration of technology.
