Module Overview

In this module we will look at deepening our knowledge as we move to the next component in the SAMR model: Augmentation. Here you will begin by reading and examining examples of how technology can be used to augment tasks and practices currently carried out in the classroom and in classroom lessons. Then, you will explore methods for creating your own Augmentations in your classrooms and lessons. These Augmentations can be used in both face-to-face and virtual classrooms and build off of the work that you completed when learning to create your Substitutions and learn to integrate the technology for the purpose of providing a functional improvement. You will be provided with multiple examples that show the transition from No Tech - Substitution - Augmentation in order to begin to visualize how the progression and purposeful transition can be applied to your lesson activities.

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

• Explain the Augmentation level of the SAMR model.

• Develop appropriate Augmentations for use in their lessons.

• Make informed decisions regarding the integration of technology based on research and the needs of all their students.

• Integrate Augmentations into their lessons.

• Reflect on their purposeful integration of technology and make continued changes based on student results.

Impact on Classroom Practice and Student Learning

Participants will be able to purposefully integrate technology to provide students with augmented learning experiences, thus going one step beyond what could be accomplished within the lesson if the technology were not applied in the learning.
