Designing Problem-Solving Lessons

Pathway Overview

On this pathway you will complete a full problem-solving lesson design and development that is broken down into three distinct parts: Lesson Foundations, Before, During, and After. You will be provided a lesson planning template that you can use to assist you in thinking more deeply about each section of the plan.

Learning Objectives

  • Objective 1: Participants will be able to design a full problem-solving lesson to be implemented with their students that includes appropriate scaffolds, accommodations, and/or modifications that maintain the intended level of cognitive demand while at the same time provide equitable access to the mathematics.

  • Objective 2: Participants will be able to receive and provide peer and facilitated feedback on lesson plans.

  • Objective 3: Participants will be able to revise and implement lesson plans based on feedback.

Impact on Classroom Practice and Student Learning

By completing this pathway, participants will be able to:

  • design problem solving lessons for use in the classroom;

  • assist students in developing problem solving strategies;

  • teach through and for problem solving; and
