Module Overview

In this module, participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to establish strong family partnerships within the educational community. By understanding the vital role that families play in the classroom, participants will learn to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Through exploring their own beliefs and practices, participants will identify and address barriers that hinder marginalized families from forming strong partnerships. They will also develop strategies to incorporate and empower all families, ensuring their active involvement in the classroom community. Through their learning, participants will develop personalized family partnerships that empower every student's family to play an active role in their child's learning success, implement a comprehensive plan for developing strong family and community partnerships, ensuring that all students have equal access to successful, meaningful, and rigorous learning opportunities, foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, enhancing student engagement, motivation, and overall academic achievement, and be well-prepared to establish and maintain strong family partnerships that contribute to the educational success and well-being of all students.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Objective 1: Describe and discuss the important role that families play in both the physical and virtual classroom community. 

  •  Objective 2: Discuss the history of and evaluate their own beliefs and practices that hinder the families of marginalized students from forming strong partnerships within the educational community. 

  • Objective 3: Plan for and incorporate new strategies into their development of family partnerships that allow all families to have a voice and prominent role in the classroom community.


Impact on Classroom Practice and Student Learning

 As a result of completing this module, participants will be able to create family partnerships that are based on mutual respect, an understanding of shared authority and power, and honoring of each persons’ important role in the classroom community. As a result of this module participants will be able to develop personalized family partnerships that empower every students’ family to take an active role in the learning success of their student. At the conclusion of this module and the course, participants will be able to implement a comprehensive plan for developing strong family and community partnerships that are founded on the need to ensure that every student is provided with successful, meaningful, and rigorous opportunities for learning and growth.
