Module Overview
In this module we will focus the learning on the third component of the SAMR model: Modification. Here you will read and examine examples of how technology can be used to significantly redesign tasks and practices currently carried out in the classroom and in classroom lessons through Modification. You will then explore methods for redesigning learning through Modifications. These Modifications can be applied in both face-to-face and virtual classrooms and will build off of the work that you completed when learning to create their Substitutions and Augmentations and learn to integrate the technology for the purpose of now transforming students' learning opportunities. Throughout the module you will be provided with multiple examples that show the transition from No Tech - Substitution - Augmentation-Modifications in order to begin to visualize how the progression and purposeful transition can be applied to your lesson activities.
We will also work on preparing to create a space in which all students are ready for rigor. In the first section of this module you are introduced to the connections between rigor and culturally responsive teaching in order to create a learning space in which students from historically marginalized groups are taught in such a way that values their knowledge and skills and allows them to feel socially and intellectually safe to stretch themselves and take risks.
Module Objectives
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
Ensure that students are ready for rigor by creating a learning space in which all students feel socially and intellectually safe to stretch themselves and take risks.
Explain the Modification level of the SAMR model.
Redesign current lessons to at the Modification level of the SAMR Model.
Make informed decisions regarding the integration of technology based on research and the needs of all their students.
Implement purposeful modified learning through classroom lessons.
Reflect on their purposeful integration of technology and make continued changes based on student results.
Application to Instruction and Student Learning
Participants will be able to provide students with modified learning opportunities that are both rigorous and engaging through the transformative and purposeful integration of technology.
